Famous Cats from Movies and TV: Find Your Favorite!

That cats are the stars of our house, no one could doubt that. What few people remember is that cats are also famous on TV and movies! And that here we are not just talking about Tom and Frajola, the “villains” of the cartoons, or Garfield, the most famous fat, hungry and gluttonous cat of all.

Who doesn't remember Felix the Cat? Or Alice's cat? Of the aristocats? Not to mention the one that is “our thing”, the Porridge! So, check out 10 unforgettable cats from TV and Cinema below. I bet you don't find out who is number 1!

10. Felix the Cat

One of the most popular cats of all cartoons, Felix the Cat was born in 1919, by the hands of Otto Messmer and Pat Sullivan, and his popularity was so great that his box office was equivalent to that of films with actors.

Known for experiencing unusual and even surreal situations, one of Félix's characteristics is to transform his tail into all kinds of tools, or open his yellow bag and take out all kinds of objects to solve his problems.

Still being produced, Gato Félix has a legion of fans, which is transformed and renewed with each generation.

09. Manda-Chuva

Rainmaker is one of the most popular cartoons from Hannah-Barbera studios, despite having only 30 episodes.

The program continues to be rerun on channels around the world. In it, we see the stories of the yellow cat and the trickster, of the title and his gang, in the midst of far-fetched plans to earn easy money, while evading Guard Belo's surveillance.

The protagonist, voiced by Lima Duarte, had as his squires Xuxu, Bacana, Espeto, Genie and the adorable Batatinha, almost as popular as the main character.

08. The Aristocats

One of Disney's most popular films, it would have been the last to receive direct endorsement from Walt Disney himself (who died in 1966).

The film, released only in 1970, tells the story of the French cat Duchess and her kittens, Berlioz, Toulouse and the well-known Marie (still today, the main star in thousands of Disney children's products), who, being kidnapped and thrown into a river by the envious butler Edgar, they must return home. For this, the four have the help of bohemian cat Thomas O'Malley, who guides the group through Paris in the 1920s.

Set to a jazzy soundtrack, the film features some of Disney's most popular songs, such as the one that says "Everybody wants the life a cat has."

07. porridge

The most popular kitten in Brazilian cartoons, Magali's cat has conquered readers and fans of Turma da Mônica cartoons since 1989.

A perfect house cat, Mingau likes to walk down the street, but he doesn't refuse his owner's lap, and the treats that the girl offers him. Sometimes getting into trouble (like peeing where he shouldn't, picking fights with other cats), but the fact is: Turma da Mônica is not complete without him!

It is such a beloved cat among readers that even in Turma Mônica Jovem and in the Turma da Mônica movie with actors it appears. A star from Brazil!

06. Cheshire cat

The famous "Alice's Cat" has a few versions, including Disney's 1951, where its fur is pink and its temperament is kind of goofy, and Tim Burton's 2010, where the cat is mysterious and a little sarcastic.

The cat, a character in Lewis Carroll's book, would have been inspired by several people, such as pastors and academics, and its inspiration as a creature would have come from medieval paintings showing a smiling cat, which Carroll, a researcher of ancient works, would have discovered.

05. Figaro

Cat that first appeared in the movie Pinocchio from Disney, in 1940, and later in several drawings, opposite Minnie, Pluto and other characters.

Figaro is an adorable and insistent white and black puppy who, in the wooden boy's film, has a slapping and kissing relationship with the goldfish Cléo. In the episodes with Minnie, Figaro remains curious and stubborn, therefore supercute. A Disney star!

04. Lucifer

movie cat Cinderella 1950, as its name says, is a bad cat. What he can do to ruin Cinderella's or her friends' plans, he does. Part of the scenes where Lucifer appears, we see the mice Jaq and Tata running away from him.

The only one who can handle him, in the animal kingdom, is the dog Bruno. Even so, their misdeeds are marked by their clumsy and clumsy behavior.

So, instead of getting mad at him (okay, we were a little bit), we laughed. Deep down, Lucifer is a fluffy cat, and we know it.

03. Cat

The nameless cat luxury doll, a 1961 classic of American cinema starring Audrey Hepburn (as socialite Holly). WARNING FOR SPOILER: the good part is at the end of the movie Holly adopts the cat and discovers love. A symbol as small as a cat, but as special to us as we understand what having a cat (and naming it) means!

What few people know is that the cat in the movie was one of the Hollywood's Biggest Animal Celebrities. That's because Orangey (“Little Orange”) was extremely requested for all kinds of series and movies recorded in those studios.

By the time the film was released, Orangey had - believe me - 10 years into his film and TV career, including a starring role in the film. rhubarb 1951, where a cat inherits the presidency of a baseball team from its eccentric owner.

When he died, probably in 1967, Orangey was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, a cemetery where several artists and film professionals are buried.

A true star!

02. Salem

The black cat and sarcastic teenage witch Sabrina (starred by Melissa Joan Hart) made fun of many people who followed the series throughout its 7 seasons, between 96 and 2003, and in the following years, in countless reruns. In the plot, Salem is a witch who was cursed to live like a cat, after having gotten into trouble with a sorceress-chief.

Therefore, we see a cat, but what he says are acidic and ironic observations about life, and the issues that Sabrina faces in her day-to-day life, at school, with friends, etc.

01. Snowball

Snowball I

The best known yellow family cat on TV was actually not just 1, but several. Bola-de-neve (in English, Snowball) was the name of 4 cats, from the Simpsons in a total of 5. The first Snowball had white fur, which owed her the name, but died soon in the second season of the cartoon.

Snowball III

The second Snowball had black fur, and lived longer, until the 15th season when she suffers an accident and dies, being replaced, in the same episode, by Snowball III, who soon dies.

Then Snowball III is replaced by Coltrane the cat (named after saxophonist Joe Coltrane), who also dies before the end of the episode. Finally, Lisa receives Snowball V as a gift, which is exactly like Snowball II.

Snowball II (or V?)

This motivates the girl to rename the 5th kitten Snowball II.

Currently, this last one, the cat that we see until today, is much luckier than her predecessors, because she always escapes the worst situations.
