Discover everything about the world of vegan cosmetics and its benefits
More and more brands – artisanal or large corporations – are adopting vegan cosmetics and taking advantage of their benefits. And this is not for nothing, since they are in demand and offer other advantages.
Such cosmetics are nothing new, however. They have been around for a while, being progressively developed and improved. What happens is that in recent years the demand for this type of product has increased.
The public began to pay more and more attention to what makes up the cosmetics they use. In addition, conscious consumption becomes an increasingly relevant issue. It turns to the notion of the social role of companies and how consumers support or not support them. Below, then, learn more about vegan cosmetics.
Top 10 best vegan cosmetics: see the brands
There are some vegan brands recognized for the quality of their products. That's why we created the list of the best vegan cosmetics for you.
What are vegan cosmetics?
Vegan is the name given to a product that dispenses with the presence of ingredients of animal origin. That is, products that dispense meat, leather, honey, milk, eggs, animal keratin and other proteins taken from living beings in their production.
This, then, does not only apply to food. While a vegan diet dispenses with the oral consumption of products of animal origin, vegan cosmetics dispense with components from that same origin and bring other benefits. That is, they only have natural components found in plants. Also, they use other synthetics.
Thus, there are creams, soaps, shampoos and conditioners, makeup and other products for skin, hair and teeth care that do not require ingredients of animal origin. And this means that there are no traces of this type of ingredient.
Why use vegan products?
As stated above, the public's demand for vegan and animal-free cosmetics is growing every day. And, you know, it's not just people with vegan eating habits who do. The general public has become aware of this.
But why, exactly, is there such an increase in demand for animal-free products? This is due to the benefits they bring in their use, but also to society and the environment. Check below the main benefits of vegan cosmetics:
- Biodegradable packaging, which breaks down better in the environment without leaving any impacts;
- Less environmental impact on production, with the release of less waste that is harmful to the environment;
- Use of natural materials found in vegetables that adapt better to the skin and that have better absorption of it;
- Eliminates animal exploitation;
- Get rid of questionable ingredients that can harm your health, such as parabens;
- Products like vegan cosmetics are safer for health and skin;
- They are better for sensitive skin, with ingredients that cause less reaction;
- Affordable prices similar to those of non-vegan products, so switching options does not weigh on your pocket.
These are the main reasons and benefits that are leading more and more people to adopt vegan-type cosmetics to the detriment of others. After all, it is possible, with them, to find more effective treatments without this leading to animal exploitation.
Also, this type of product has a lower environmental impact, so it is socially better than the others. Therefore, consider starting to use them yourself to ensure conscious consumption without giving up good products.
Are vegan and organic cosmetics the same thing?
No. Organic cosmetics are those that use products whose production uses at least 95% of organic raw materials. These are those that do not use chemicals in production, such as industrial insecticides and other types of poisons.
Therefore, the organic product may contain products of animal origin. On the other hand, the vegan product will never have raw materials of animal origin. With that, it may or may not be organic, which will depend on the care taken with the production of vegetable ingredients.
Is a vegan product the same as cruelty free?
Neither. In fact, every vegan product is cruelty free, while the opposite is not true. Vegan cosmetics, as we saw throughout the text, are those that dispense with ingredients and raw materials of animal origin and add other benefits. In fact, its entire production process is far from using animals for any purpose.
On the other hand, it is called cruelty free that product that does not impose animal suffering. This suffering is due to the use of animals in tests to prove whether or not the product is harmful to humans.
However, these tests impose countless sufferings. For example, burns, cuts, allergic reactions and other issues. They can even lead to the death of the pet. When this does not happen and it has the possibility of recovery, it is used repeatedly in new tests until it is no longer useful and is sacrificed.
Thus, a product is cruelty free when it does not use these testing methods. After all, today there are several much safer and more effective forms of testing that do not require the use of these animals. Also, to be cruelty free, the product cannot buy products and raw materials that have used tests of this type. That is, you cannot sponsor the practice.
As such, please note that the product may use animal products, but not test on animals or sponsor companies that do. With that, he will be cruelty free. On the other hand, when the product is vegan, the animals never go through its production process, either as raw material or for testing.
