Anyone who has a pet, whether it's a dog or a cat, knows: our friends can't see us eating, because here they come, with those big pitiful eyes, as if asking for a sliver of something. As if we didn't give them quality food and in a good quantity, right?

And we, who are drooling owners, do what? We give a little. It's even funny, our furry friend jumping and making mischief, for a piece of food.

However, there is a problem here: there are foods that we eat, but that are simply prohibited for cats and dogs. Some, they can even eat from time to time, but as each cat is different, you better avoid it.

Sometimes, we can even think: the neighbor's cat eats, why can't mine? First, are you a veterinarian, to identify your cat's health problems? Second, do you really think your cat deserves that risk? If both answers are “no”, that's why!

Having a pet is loving him, and loving is also saying no. So, check out the list below and be surprised by some foods that cats eat on TV, Books and movies, but which, in fact, are prohibited for them.

10. Alcoholic beverages

Alcoholic beverages are dangerous even for people, let's be honest. Let's not be hypocrites though, a beer on a Friday sometimes is all good, isn't it? The problem is that this type of food passes through the liver, and the liver of cats is different.

So, when you give your cat a beer, he runs the risk of suffering a stomach infection, developing, much more easily, cirrhosis or ulcers, among many other problems.

That doesn't mean he can't drink one. beer for cats. But in this case, it's a product exclusively aimed at the organism and feline palate, and even so, with its limited weekly quantity.

So, you already know: you can do a #sextou with your cat – but for the cat, it will be with water!

9. Chocolate

Chocolates are delicious, aren't they? However, chocolates are good for humans. Cats shouldn't eat chocolates, because this candy has two substances that can cause many diseases for your animal.

First, they have fat. Milk, vegetable oil, dried fruits and seeds in some types… Fats of this type are extremely harmful for a cat. They can overload your kitty's liver and kidneys, causing serious problems for him.

Second, they have sugar. And the sugar in the sweets is always industrial sugar. Thus, your cat may suffer from hyperglycemia, and consequently dehydration, heart problems, kidney problems...

So, if you want to give your kitty a treat, look for rations in a pet shop, and see the different options that this store offers!

8. Onion and garlic

Do you cook? So you already know: onions and garlic have substances that, raw, give a burning sensation on the tongue and eyes, right? And it is precisely these substances that make these foods much more harmful for your cat.

In addition to affecting the sensitivity of your animal, these foods have substances that directly attack the blood of the furry ones, reducing their resistance to diseases. And the situation does not improve if you cook or fry these foods, no.

So when you go to mess with onions and garlic, be careful that your cat doesn't eat any of those things, and after you're done, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid problems.

7. Salty foods

Salt makes everything taste better, doesn't it? But, as in the case of humans, excess salt is bad for cats. As they are much smaller than us, the amount of salt that a human eats, in salty form, for a cat can be fatal.

This is because, as we have said, their livers, kidneys and other organs of the digestive system are very sensitive.

Your cat's kidneys can become saturated very easily, causing intoxication, if he eats, for example, an innocent bacon snack...

So, when your cat looks at you eating peanut eggs, resist: salt is bad for you!

6. Coffee

When we wake up, what is the first food we eat? Coffee. And during the day, that laziness beats, what do we drink? Coffee. That is, coffee serves to wake up.

A cat, however, does not need caffeine. For him, it will be extremely harmful, that extra dose of energy that coffee gives.

He will be super agitated, he will have difficulties concentrating and moving, possibly he will feel much thirstier than usual and, at the end of the day, he will be exhausted, and irritable.

So, at coffee time, serve your cat some filtered water, he will be much happier!

5. Fatty foods

Liver, avocado, bacon, ham… Delicious food. However, they are extremely fatty, even in the case of avocados, which are good fats. Therefore, they are prohibited for your cat.

Excess fat will overload the liver and kidneys of the cat, may cause obesity, hypertension, heart problems...

Forget the image of the wild cat, hunting its prey in the shadows. Domestic cats have a different digestive system, so it's not every kind of meat your pet can eat.

Therefore, always choose food suitable for cats!

4 eggs

Following the logic of fatty foods, cats cannot eat eggs. Forget the idea of your cat as a hunter that attacks nests: these are wild cats, besides, a bird's egg is much smaller than a chicken's.

In addition to being greasy, and potentially fatal to your cat's liver, raw eggs can carry diseases like salmonella, and you don't want your pet sick, do you?

So, as always, prefer specific cat food.

3. Raw fish

Cats can't eat raw fish? So it is! A lot of people associate cats and fish, but did you know that they shouldn't be offered (often) to your kitty?

Stray cats even eat raw fish, but remember that these cats are abandoned, so they have to make do with what they have. This does not mean that they are healthier than a domestic cat. That's why, under the direction of the veterinarian, you can give your cat a fish, but taking great care.

Raw fish also have some problems that are not so serious for humans: they may have bones that we don't notice, they may be starting to spoil, they may be contaminated with mercury...

Fish, then, only those from petshops – bought in the feed section, we mean!

2. Canned fish

Following the logic of fish and fatty foods, canned fish can be fatal for your cat.

In addition to having all the fat and sometimes some bones or bones, canned fish has vegetable oils and preservatives.

Vegetable oils, being fat, attack the liver, kidneys and other organs of your pet's digestive system.

In turn, preservatives are, in general, a lot of sodium combined with other substances, which prevent food from spoiling. And sodium (salt's main component) will make your cat salivate a lot, and possibly attack his kidneys.

So, resist your cat's meows, desperate for the sardines you just opened. Prefer a fish-flavored snack, bought at the petshop, which the kitty will like much more!

1. Milk and derivatives

What do you mean, milk? So it is! Cats, like all other animals except humans, do not drink milk after weaning.

The image of the cat with a saucer of milk is a classic. But it's wrong, because milk, in addition to fat, has lactose, and cats can develop intolerance.

And as with humans, lactose intolerance can lead to the most diverse stomach problems. From the lightest (excess gas) to some heavier ones, such as diarrhea or vomiting.

So, forget about the cat with a saucer of milk scene! If you have a kitten and her kittens have stopped suckling, start offering food. Milk, only maternal milk, as long as the puppy wants.

Extra: dog food

Many inexperienced pet owners feed their cats dog food, and vice versa. Sometimes, the person raises cats and dogs, one runs out of food, and then the tutor offers the other's food.

If that's the case, and you only have dog food at that time, offer it. But later, immediately, go to the petshop to buy more.

That's because dog food is designed for… Dogs. Your cat is not a dog, that is, your cat's body, blood, organs and stomach substances are quite different from those of a dog.

So, if your cat eats dog food, what can happen is that it starts to suffer from starvation, anemia, bone or stomach diseases and other problems caused by malnutrition.

So, you already know: it's just for your cat cat food!
