Thus, the Savannah are rare animals, because they are recent, there are still few breeding grounds for the breed around the world. Also, Savannah puppies values can reach R$50,000.00. By the way, everything will depend on the lineage of the puppy in relation to the wild Serval.
Well, the 1st generation kittens, called F1, are the result of the direct crossing between the wild Serval and the domestic cat. So it's no wonder this is the biggest and most expensive generation, as well as being the wildest. But don't worry, the Savannah F1 also know how to be affectionate and companions, although they don't like to be held very much.
In contrast, second-generation, or F2, cats come from crossing an F1 Savannah cat and a domestic cat. Even though they are quite a wild generation, they are more affectionate and affectionate than the Savannah F1 cat. They are also cats of inferior size and value to the generation that preceded them.
So, already the Savannah cats of the F3 generation, are offspring resulting from the crossing between copies of the F2 generation. Thus, they are smaller cats than their parents, in addition to being more affectionate, companions and more tameable. However, it is important to remember that cats of this breed will have a wilder personality, regardless of their generation.
Finally, Savannah cats F4 and F5 are the most domesticable, smallest and cheapest. They are very affectionate animals and ideal for families. Incidentally, all Savannah cats, regardless of their generation, are robust-looking cats with long legs and the characteristic wild Serval markings.
How much does a cat of this breed cost?
If you dream of having a Savannah cat, it is important that you know that this breed of cat is among the most expensive in the world! However, the variation in values is large because, as already noted, each generation of Savannah will have its specific value.
First, Savannah F1 cats, which are direct descendants of the African Serval wild cat, are the most expensive. The price range for these puppies is around R$50,000.00. Furthermore, the specimens of the F2 generation breed also have a higher value, ranging from R$35,000.00 to R$40,000.00 depending on sex and coat pattern.
Next, we have the F3 generation, which are more domesticated cats with less wild instincts. Their puppies usually cost between R$10,000.00 and R$15,000.00. The Savannah cat of the F4 and F5 generations are the cheapest, since they are the most distant from their wild ancestor, the Serval. Thus, its value tends to vary between R$6,000.00 for the F4 and R$4,000.00 for the F5.
How big does it get and how long does it live?
First of all, remember that the Savannah cat is a direct ancestor of a wild cat. Therefore, it is common for their size to be much larger than the domestic cats you are used to seeing. Incidentally, he has long legs and a thin body, being considered a giant cat.
Hard to talk about the size of this breed without mentioning its generations again. This is because, as their descendants move away from the wild ancestor, their height and weight decrease. However, the Savannah cat will always be a bigger cat than other domestic cats, even if it is from an F5 generation.
Thus, the Savannah F1 are the largest cats of generations, reaching 60 centimeters in height and their weight varies from 15 kg to 25 kg. Meanwhile, the F2 generation cats, although a little smaller, continue to impress with their size. In this way, a Savannah of this generation can weigh up to 20 kg and is slightly smaller than the F1 generation specimens.
Furthermore, F3 generation cats look more like domestic cats, weighing between 12kg and 17kg and measuring up to 38cm. Then we have the cats of the last generations, F4 and F5 which are the smallest and most affectionate. Savannah F4 cats weigh between 8kg and 12kg while F5 specimens range between 6kg and 11kg.
Finally, because they are hybrid cats, the Savannah have a certain degree of rejection of injectable drugs such as vaccines and anesthesia. However, they do not have any of the diseases typical of the breed and their health tends to be very good. Therefore, their life expectancy is long, and may exceed 18 years of age.
How to raise a Savannah cat?
First of all, this breed is very close to a wild feline, therefore, the first rule of care for a Savannah cat is its socialization. Thus, it is important that they are socialized correctly to avoid undesirable behavior. Also, these are high energy cats, and they need physical and mental stimulation every day.
Therefore, invest in good environmental enrichment, as well as interactive activities to prevent your Savannah cat from getting bored. In fact, some studies indicate that boredom can make them sick and depressed. Plus, the Savannah loves to jump and run, so shelves and scratching posts are great options.
