Did you know that cats were worshiped as gods in Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia? Well, between the 15th and 16th centuries it was believed that cats that stayed in temples accompanied the souls of priests to paradise when they died. That was the Burmese cat, a docile and sensitive feline that emerged in Burma centuries ago.

By the way, it was only in 1919 that priests of one of the country's temples presented two Frenchmen with a couple of Burmese cats. It was only then that the breed arrived in the West, although it was not recognized until 1966 in Great Britain. So, do you want to know more details about this sacred cat breed? Check it out below!

Firstly, the Burmese cat stands out for its characteristic coloring. Thus, some parts of its body such as paws, snout and tail have darker hair than the rest of the body, which has lighter hair. However, a striking feature of the breed are the white paws, as if the kitty was wearing shoes.

In addition, its coat is long and soft, and its colors can vary between gray, blue, black and gold. Incidentally, blue eyes are also quite common in specimens of the breed. The Burmese's nose is well rounded and delicate and he has medium ears, not too pronounced.

Although it has medium to long hair, the Burmese cat rarely has matted hair. Thus, it tends to remain beautiful throughout the year. But make no mistake, brushing your Burmese cat will still be necessary.

Also known as the Sacred Cat of Burma, the specimens of the breed have a very mystical history involving their ancestry. These cats are believed to have accompanied the souls of temple priests to heaven when they died. Thus, they were venerated as gods in antiquity.

However, the breed was only recognized years later, when it participated in a French show in 1920. It still took a few more decades for the Burmese cat to be officially recognized, which only happened in 1966 in Great Britain.

How much does a cat of this breed cost?

Although the Burmese cat has a lot of energy to play and run, it is not a cat that usually climbs to heights. So invest in toys that are safe on the floor and try to take the time to pay attention to him.

In addition, even with long and soft fur, cats of this breed are low maintenance. That way, you don't have to worry about exorbitant expenses at the vet and petshop. So, if you are interested in having a puppy of the breed, know that the Burmese is quite popular and its prices vary between R$450.00 and R$700.00.

Generally speaking, the Sacred Burmese cat is quite popular and therefore there are many breed breeders around the world. However, it is important to do a lot of research and find reliable pet stores to buy a puppy of the breed.

Although the Burmese cat has a flowing and elegant appearance, it hides a muscular and heavy body. In addition, it is a long cat, with a marked bone structure and, therefore, is considered a medium-sized cat.

Therefore, the Sacred Cat of Burma is characterized by a concentrated muscle mass, being able to exceed its average of 6 kg quite easily. Although females are smaller than males, they usually weigh an average of 4 kg to 5 kg.

Incidentally, breed cats have some genetic diseases such as vision problems and immunodeficiency. In addition, some specimens of the breed may have a disease of the central nervous system called spongiform degeneration.

However, with regular vet visits and a healthy routine, the Burmese can have a good life expectancy. Therefore, cats of this breed live an average of 16 years, and may even exceed this average.

How to raise a Burmese cat?

Firstly, if you are looking for a companion pet that is attached to the owner, then this cat breed will be ideal for you! In that sense, Burmese are sensitive cats that don't like to be left alone at all. Incidentally, kittens can develop depression and other health issues when they feel lonely.

So make sure they have company if you need to leave the house for a long time. In addition, animals of this breed are curious and quite intelligent, exploring every corner of the house.

Furthermore, the Burmese cat is a vocal cat. That is, he likes to meow to get his tutor's attention, in addition to enjoying communicating and ′′ talking ′′ with his humans. In fact, they get so attached to their owners that they can become territorial and don't like to share their lap with any other animal.

However, Burmese can get along well with other animals and are also patient with children. That way, if you take the time to just play with him and give him some attention, he's sure to be a much happier kitty!

Although its coat is long, it does not require very frequent brushing. So, try to brush it between once and twice a week and that will be enough. But keep an eye on the hair exchange times, maybe you need to increase that frequency.

Finally, try to feed your Burmese with a good feed, and set regular times to serve it. That's because cats of that breed tend to become obese! In this way, try to maintain an active routine and a healthy diet, as well as, of course, lots of love and affection.
