What is the Golden Retriever dog?
First of all, the breed was developed in the 19th century in Great Britain, more specifically in the region of Scotland. At the time, an important Scottish politician, Lord Tweedmouth, ended up creating and perfecting the breed with the aim of creating a hunting animal.
By the way, at that time it was quite common for dogs specialized in tracking down prey and then picking up the animal after slaughter. Therefore, the breeder's intention was a good-natured breed with a keen sense of smell and intelligence. Thus, the Golden Retriever dog was born, and the breed was soon accepted in England in 1913.
However, its name as we know it today only appeared in 1920 and refers to the characteristic coloration of the animal's hair. By the way, as the name implies, its semi-long coat has a characteristic golden yellow color. Although all dogs of the breed must be the same shade, variations of the cream are also accepted.
Furthermore, the Golden Retriever is a very symmetrical animal with a powerful appearance. They are strong and active dogs, which is why they have robust and muscular paws. In addition, they have wide muzzles and floppy ears. The Golden Retriever's eyes are brown and always have a sweet and kind look.
Finally, they are long-legged and quite active dogs, as the breed emerged as hunting animals. But don't worry, even though he has a haughty air and the most abundant hair, this dog is very affectionate and adapts to any type of climate. Maybe that's why it's so popular around the world.
How much does a dog of this breed cost?
First, because it is such a well-known and loved breed, it is common to find kennels specializing in Golden Retriever dogs. However, do not trust any advertisement you come across, especially those that make PUPs available over the internet.
In this sense, it is extremely important to know the kennel or breeding center where you will acquire your Golden Retriever puppy. Get to know the puppy's parents to make sure the lineage is healthy and well cared for. Also, look for references from other people who have already bought from the same place, so you avoid financing animal cruelty as much as possible.
In general, Golden Retriever puppies tend to vary greatly in value, ranging from R$1,000.00 to R$7,000.00. By the way, be wary of very low values! This is a popular breed, but good breeding, pedigrees and dogs that participate in shows cause this price variation. So stay tuned!
How big does it get and how long does it live?
Well, although it is a very docile and kind animal, the Golden Retriever dog has a powerful and imposing bearing. Were it not for his affectionate expression, we might have dismissed him as a fearsome dog. That's because the breed is considered large, with robust anatomy.
Furthermore, their bodies have fairly balanced proportions, and their height varies between 51 centimeters and 61 centimeters at the withers. As for their weight, Golden Retrievers can weigh up to 36 kg without becoming obese. However, ideally they range from 27kg to a maximum of 36kg.
Although the Golden Retriever dog is considered a healthy animal, there are some diseases that appear more frequently in this breed than in others. One of them is hip dysplasia, which ends up affecting the dog's hip and causes difficulties for locomotion.
In addition, there is also elbow dysplasia, causing problems with the elbow joints, age-related eye problems and heart problems. However, the main and most serious one is cancer. Although it is not known why, the breed is quite prone to problems of this type.
However, with regular monitoring by the veterinarian and up-to-date routine exams, these animals have an excellent life expectancy. In this sense, the Golden Retriever dog can exceed 13 years of life, although this is the average for these pets.
How to raise a Golden Retriever puppy?
Part of what makes the Golden Retriever one of the most beloved dogs in the world is undoubtedly its charming personality. In addition to being easy-going, patient and docile animals, they are also very intelligent and easy to train. Therefore, you can easily teach this dog tricks and house rules.
Incidentally, this is one of the reasons why the breed is so commonly chosen to become guide dogs for people with different types of disabilities. In that sense, they are patient animals, companions and very brave. Also, in case you haven't already guessed, they are excellent companions for children and get along well with other animals.
Although they are adaptable and easy to care for animals, it is important to pay attention to their hair, which is longer. Try to maintain weekly brushing and baths at least once a month, if not more. Use and abuse the fact that Goldens love water!
Also, pay attention to your Golden Retriever puppy's diet. Talk to your veterinarian and choose a good quality feed, in addition to keeping regular schedules, as this dog is known to be a foodie and can become obese. By the way, maintaining a good routine of walks and exercises will contribute to a healthy life.
