little lion dog

The first of the rare dog breeds corresponds to the Little Lion Dog or Lowchen. Dogs of this breed are named for their mane-shaped hair. Also, by the tufts of hair that cover their paws and tail.

This dog was known to be the favorite of royal ladies in Europe. Despite this, it was considered extinct in the 1970s, when there were only 65 dogs of the breed alive. Today, however, the number is greater, although still limited.

New Guinea Singing Dog

Another of the dogs that came to be considered extinct is the New Guinea Singing Dog. The dog, which stands out for its howl that sounds like a melody in song, has an appearance similar to that of the fox.

It was considered to have been extinct, since from the 1970s to 2020 there were no records of the dog in its natural habitat. However, last year animals of the species were found on an island in New Guinea. In addition, today it is believed that there are 300 of them in captivity.

Puli

Puli is another rare dog breed. And you've probably seen pictures of him around, or at least have a great reference. After all, he is the one who inspires Floquinho, the dog from Cebolinha whose head and tail seem impossible to distinguish.

Puli dogs are very friendly. And they stand out for their very different coat. In the form of tightly closed curls, it is very reminiscent of dreadlocks. In addition to being stylish, by the way, they were also among the smartest in the world.

saluki

Saluki is the name of one of the rare dog breeds. She is originally from the Middle East and was highly appreciated in Ancient Egypt. Dogs of this breed are slender and long-legged. No wonder they are excellent racing dogs.

Tibetan Mastiff

Here we have another one of the rare and charming dog breeds! The Tibetan Mastiff is a large dog of Chinese origin. The “guardian dog of Tibet”, as it is known, is calm and very affectionate. In other words, a real gentle giant.

The only issue that prevents us from having you closer, unfortunately, is not a mere detail. This dog costs R$ 2.5 million. So, don't expect to bump into one of them at random in the neighborhood.

Australian Cattle Dog

Also called Blue Heeler or Red Heeler (depending on coat color), this is another rare dog breed. In this case, the dogs stand out for the appearance of wet hair, which is due to the mixture of tones in the coat.

affenpinscher

The seventh of the rare dog breeds comes directly from Germany. The dog has a peculiar appearance that appears to be a mixture of monkey and dog. However, it is no coincidence that “affen” means monkey. Also, this is one of the oldest breeds that exist.

Basenji

Here we have one that is considered not only one of the rare dog breeds. But it also holds an important title: the oldest breed in the world. He is distinguished by the absence of barks, but sounds similar to interrupted laughter. Also, because females come into heat only once a year.

Catahoula Cur

Catahoula Cur or Leopard Dog is also part of the rare dog breeds. The dog has several spots on its coat, like moles. Furthermore, it originates from the United States. One of its main features is choosing a family member as a favorite.

bedlington terrier

This dog is famous for being very similar to sheep, which is due to its fur. This is a hybrid breed, by the way, which comes from mixing a Poodle with a Whippet.

chinese crested dog

The Chinese Crested Dog is one of the rare dog breeds. However, their specimens are characterized by the presence of very little hair and large, alert ears.

Pachon Navarro

This is a rare breed of dog that has Turkish origins. The dog has, as its main feature, a divider over its nose, like a line that passes from its forehead to its mouth.

Peruvian Hairless Dog

Another of the rare dog breeds corresponds to the Peruvian hairless dog. It is illustrated by the absence of hair, which sometimes has the exception of some hair in tufts on the top of the head. Plus, that's one of the oldest dogs in the world, too.

Lundehund or Norsk Lundehund

Another of the rare dogs, this one originates from Norway. Famous for being alert and full of energy, it also bears the nickname “puffin dog”. And this is due to the fact that they originally hunted for the nests of these animals on the seashore.

finnish spitz

Spitz Finlandês

Because the Finnish Spitz is another of the rare dog breeds. Originally from Finland, it is a cold-resistant hunting dog. Its coat, by the way, is basically waterproof. However, he is larger than the German Spitz, having a medium size.

Italian Greyhound

However, despite the name, this dog breed has Egyptian origins. They have slender, slender bodies and long legs, as well as a small head. They are great racing dogs.

mexican naked

bullhuahua
